Patrick Powers was born in 1822 in Ireland, perhaps in County Waterford,
or Wicklow, most of the Powers clan seem to come from that area.
Patrick and Johanna immigrated to America in 1860. This would coincide
with the Irish potato famine. They seemed to have lived most of their
lives in Bellevue, Ohio which is in Huron County. The census records
Patrick's profession as a farmer. The census also records that they could
not read or write.
They had two definite children, Richard, who is R.C. Powers Sr, born
1864, and Thomas J, born 1867. Another Powers child, Patrick, appears
on the 1900 census, showing that he would have been born in 1877.
Patrick died March 10, 1887.
- Johanna Powers
Johanna was born Johanna Drogan in Ireland. Her mother apparentley
came over with her and Patrick and perhaps Johanna's brother Patrick as
well. He doesn't show up as living with them until the 1900 census after
Patrick Powers (Johanna's husband) has died.
Johanna died in Huron County, April 14, 1916. They and Thomas are
buried in the Catholic cemetery in Bellevue.
